Article from EGM magazine on Quality Crap Wii Games Article - Nov 2007 Issue

EGM magazine's November 2007 issue has an article discussing the lack of quality in the games recently coming out for Nintendo's Wii. These games are being labeled has "crap" but the article continues to mention how a game console which produces and sales such "crappy" games is a game console who is doing good in the market. Nintendo Wii is clearly a game console who is doing great in the current market. Since the Wii came into the game console market it has be able to out sell Sony's Playstation 3 and the Microsoft's XBox in number of sells. However, it was released with a low expectations from the game development community which in turns became and has become a mad rush to release games. The Wii doesn't have the hardware power that the other games console have. Therefore, since the game console has become such a hit with a new market of never before gamers it can be no surprise that there are "crappy" games being created and release for the Wii. After all Nintendo did state that there "focus was on uneducated [gaming] newbies" especially since has found a new market in players ranging from older retiree's, children's parents to younger gamers then ever before. According to the EGM Nintendo does not have a good system to check the quality of the games being produced for it's system, therefore they are going to be some bad games being released. Most importantly these games will continue to sale because the games system is so extremely popular. In addition, the sales of of not great games will continue due to Nintendo's DS popularity and the massive amount of games being released plus the numbers of games already out.
The article listed the following games has "quality crap": Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal, Puzzle Quest The New Yorks Times Crosswords for the DS, Cooking Mama series, Trauma Center series, and Chicken Shoot.
Some of these games got there "quality crap" rating due to the graphics. Other's because they are too simple of a game. Although, most of us will agree that some games are just crap for one reason or another Nintendo has it's target market very well defined. By choosing to target "Newbies" the games do not have to be first quality games, they just need to be simple and basic games that the user can quickly learn to play. For this reason alone, we will continue to see these so called "crappy games" coming out from the gaming vendors. Just remember they aren't really bad games, they are just games that other people might enjoy.
The entertainment value of each game is solely based on each players experience. So I'm a true believer that the stock of the game really is based on the enjoyment the player gets from the game, whether the game has great graphics or not, the level of difficulties or what is currently popular. Just play the games you like. Lucky for all of us, Gamestop will always buy the games you didn't like back.
