Connecting Your Wii To The Internet

First determine if you will be using a wireless router or a wired router. Then follow the instructions listed below to be able to connect your Wii to the Internet.

Wireless Router Instructions

Quick way to connect your Wii to the Internet using a wireless router is using the "Search for an Access Point" function.
  1. Click on the "Wii Button" in the lower left corner of the Wii Menu.
  2. Once at the settings screen, click on "Wii Settings."
  3. In the Wii System Settings click on the blue arrow on the right which will lead to a second screen of options.
  4. Click on the "Internet Button"
  5. Select "Connection Settings"
  6. Then select an open connection, "Wireless Connection"
  7. Select "Search for an Access Point"
  8. Click on "OK" to display all of the available Access Points.
  9. Now select the Access Point you will be connecting to. (Check below for troubleshooting tips)
  10. Now click on "Save" then click on "OK" to save the connection settings.
  11. Select "OK" once more to test your connection.
  12. If the test is successful, the Wii console has now a wireless connection to the Internet. Congrats.

Wired Router instructions

To connect the Wii console via a wired connection to the Internet, you must have the Wii Lan Adapter to connect. Click on, Wii USB Lan Adapter by Intec to get on the Internet.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Access Points which appears with a closed padlock require that you provide a security code or passphrase for you to access.
  • Connection signals that are weak show are colored yellow or red. It improve your connection signals you may wish to try changing the channel on your router to channel 1 or 11, doing so may provide you with a better signal stability and strength.
  • The following wireless routers are know not to work with the Wii console: Belkin F5D6231-4 vers. 1000, Belkin F5D7230-4 vers. 4000, Linksys WCG200 ver. 2, Linksys WCG200-CC, Linksys WCG200-CC ver. 2, Netgear CG814W, Netgear CG814WG, Netgear CG814WG ver .2, RCA DCW725
  • Note from Nintendo, some DSL modems may be compatible, however some many are not. Nintendo recommends using a router.
