Nintendo Announces Wii to be sold in China and Gift Giving Feature - October 26, 2007

Nintendo has announced that the Wii will be sold in China next year. In addition, a new feature was added today that will allow users to send each other games over the Internet has a gift. This gift-giving feature uses the Wii's Shopping Channel by allowing a user to select a game as a gift and send it to another user online. Once the user receiving the gift chooses to accept the game, the shopping channel launches and begins to download the game sent. Nintendo believes this will allow them to promote games from user to user. They are also hoping that more Wii user's will be using their game console online.
To date, Nintendo has sold 13.2 million Wii game consoles around the world. The number of Nintendo DS systems sold currently stands at 53.6 million. Both systems are out selling both the Sony Playstation and the Microsoft XBox consoles, making both companies feel pressured to lower their game console prices. We might have to wait to see, but it seems that Nintendo is clearly set to out sell both companies over this holiday season.
