Wii owners who got their Wii console before December 2007 can upgrade from Photo Channel 1.0 by downloading Photo Channel 1.1 in WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel.
To determine which version of the Photo Channel is installed
Move the Wii Remote cursor over the Photo Channel icon on the Wii menu. A pop-up will appear which will state "Photo Channel 1.1" if you have the latest version. Otherwise it will state "Photo Channel," meaning version 1.0 is installed.
Why upgrade to Photo Channel 1.1
There are three reasons to upgrade to the latest Photo Channel version:
- Users can select from a SD memory card their favorite digital image as the Photo Channel icon.
- Music files used with the slideshow feature can be played in a random order.
- Play AAC files. The AAC format will replace the ability to play MP3's the Wii. AAC files provide a greater sound quality than an MP3 of the same size. This new compatibility will work with MP4 audio files in the .m4a format.
It is important to note that once the Photo Channel has been upgraded to version 1.1, the Photo channel will no longer be able to play MP3 format music files only ACC format.
