GameLabo reports on a new hard drive accessory to expand the storage capacity for the Wii, and an employee at Digipen game development school mentions that Nintendo is working to bring Sega Saturn games to the Wii.
External hard drive Add-on for the Wii
Memory storage on the Wii is limited to 512MB of flash memory, and two 2GB SD memory cards, which is limited to just storage purposes (you cannot run a downloaded game from it). If you're an avid fan of the Virtual Console service, or like to have many MP3s, video and photos on your cards, you may run into a situation where you're quickly running out of space for the old games.
According to GameLabo, a Japanese underground video gaming magazine, Nintendo is planning to add an external hard drive accessory to supplement the meager capabilities of the Flash memory and SD Card slots. The report says little else than this; it leads to further speculation that there will be support released for external USB hard drives that can come in sizes up to 300GB now.
Sega Saturn Virtual Console Games coming to the Wii
Nostalgia is one of the main reasons for the success of the Virtual Console on Wii. The Wii Virtual Console Game service currently supports games that originally ran on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), SNES (Super-NES), N64 (Nintendo 64), Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and the TurboGrafx 16. It has recently announced support for the Neo-Geo and MSX consoles. Sega Saturn emulation and games would be a likely next step, as it is from the same generation of the N64.
The rumor is sourced from an employee at DigiPen, a Redmond Washington video game school that is in close proximity to Nintendo of America's offices, and says that some is indeed working on bringing out Sega Saturn games to the Wii.
Exciting rumors if nothing else!
